What do you think of a heat map overlay on the globe view to indicate where the action is.. Ex. Greenish-to yellow for grinding and dark orange to red for war..

Not sure how refresh would work, but do you mean like the paint campaign?

Yes similar to the paint but colors not so dense and overlapped.

This is on The List, we just don't have realtime updatable globe at the moment and would have to see that it won't take too much bandwidth if we push it to the clients. Otherwise it'd cause problems with playing. So when we find a good way to do that, we'll add it.

Sym I don't think it it would have to be real time.. Maybe something like a 10 - 15 min update or so would be alright... The wars last way longer than that anyway...

With realtime I mean without restarting the game, "online" would probably be a better word for it. At the moment we can update "offline", meaning at the game startup, which doesn't really lend to the heat map. That's why the paint map was also updated only intermittently.

The world view map as a texture takes aroung 500kB of data, so suddenly transferring that in the middle of a heated battle would understandably be quite disruptive. But if we transfer it not as an image, or as a separate layer, or... We'll have to test this. I'd like the transfer to be as small as possible so it doesn't get annoying.

Naturally we can also not push it, but rather have the client ask for it. If you don't go to world view, you don't get data transfer since it's pointless anyway. But even then it has to be snappy. On a typical mobile connection 500kB would take around 10 seconds to transfer (at least here 512k is quite normal for a 3G connection, not to mention those still with EDGE). So either the user would wait, or the user would see old data and leave the view before it was updated.

The heat map would be of lower resolution, so even that reduces the transfer size. But the client has to be updated first to handle it and I'm hoping to get it to the next version.

What about a manual "refresh" button to pull update information imitated from players?
